Camping Itinerary - Visiting Three State Parks in Two Days

This is how we were able to visit three Texas State Parks in two days (and squeeze in an ice cream stop).

Howdy, folks! I’m here to share an itinerary from the time Bryce and I went camping at Inks Lake State Park. We discovered that there were a few state parks nearby where we wanted to camp, so we wanted to maximize our time. Bryce had a couple days off of work, and we had minimal time left to squeeze in more Texas State Parks before the semester began.

You can go back and read more about the stories that came with our camping trip if you want a more detailed outline of our experiences. However, this post is going to give you a timed itinerary of this trip.

Saturday:

9:00am - Leave Smithville, Texas

11:00am - Arrive at lookout near Longhorn Cavern, eat lunch

12:00pm - Tour at Longhorn Cavern State Park

1:30pm - Finish tour, Leave for Inks Lake State Park

1:45pm - Check in for camping location at Inks Lake State Park

2:00pm - Hike Devil’s Waterhole Nature Trail, Valley Spring Creek Trail, and part of Devil’s Backbone Nature Trail to spend some time swimming around Devil’s Waterhole

4:15pm - Leave Waterhole to head to campsite

4:30pm - Hike stuff out to campsite and set up gear

6:00pm - Eat dinner, play card games

9:00pm - Attempt to sleep (it was very hot, so it was very difficult to fall asleep haha)

Sunday:

8:00am-ish - Wake up, snack, and clean up campsite

9:00am - Hike Lake Trail, Woodlands Trail, and Pecan Flats Trail

11:30am - Swim around Inks Lake

12:00pm - Eat lunch, Shower, Leave Inks Lake

1:00pm - Arrive at LBJ State Park

2:00pm - Leave LBJ, Get ice cream in Fredericksburg

3:00pm - Drive back to Smithville

5:00pm - Arrive in Smithville (just in time to eat dinner haha)

This was just the way our trip wound up panning out; this is by no means a set trip. You can make your adventures whatever you want them to be! This itinerary can be a stepping stone to figure out your plan for visiting multiple state parks in a couple days.
