Our Favorite North Texas State Parks

Looking for places around North Texas to go hiking? We've got a few of our favorites here.

Last week, we talked about our favorite Central Texas State Parks, but what about our North Texas people!? Now I’m not going to lie, some of the North Texas Parks may not seem as exciting as some of the Central Texas Parks. I like to think of them as hidden gems; you have to do a little searching to find these beautiful, outdoor wonderlands. We haven't been to nearly as many North Texas Parks, so the three parks listed below are the top parks that we have been able to visit!

Dinosaur Valley State Park

Seriously so many things to do here! The Paluxy River runs through the middle of Dino Valley, so you can swim and hang out in the sun. I highly recommend checking out the Overlook Trail or the Rocky Ridge Trail to get a great view of the Paluxy River. And of course you can’t miss out on looking for dinosaur tracks!

Lake Mineral Wells State Park

Penitentiary Hollow. That’s it. Best part of the park by far! Granted, Bryce and I didn’t walk around to the rest of the park, but we spent hours exploring just this little portion of it. I can only imagine how much time we would’ve spent at Lake Mineral Wells if we had gone earlier in the day, the weather was a little warmer outside, and didn’t spend all of our time in one place.

Cedar Hill State Park

It was a very hot summer day when we went to Cedar Hill, so we didn't get the chance to walk every single trail that there is. This park is still developing some of their trails and scenic overlooks, but you can still gain access to all of these spots. You might just have to walk some overgrowth along the trails haha.

So let’s go Dallas-Fort Worth people! Have fun exploring the great outdoors at one of these three parks.
