Our Top 3 Central Texas State Parks

Do you live in the Central Texas area? You have to take a day trip to one of these parks!

Since visiting our first Texas State Park in March, Bryce and I have visited 15 state parks in the Central Texas area. This home of the Hill Country and Lost Pines region in Bastrop; Central Texas is home to so many beautiful ecoregions. With the colder weather approaching, it is the perfect weather to get out and explore the outdoors. Here is a list of our three favorite Central Texas State Parks:

McKinney Falls

This Austin wonder easily rose to the top of our favorites list after our visit back in June. We were amazed by all that there was to do within the land allotted for McKinney Falls State Park. We recommend visiting this park in the spring or summer months that way you can enjoy the cool water underneath the waterfalls. However, if you are looking to do everything but swim, this park is great for any time of year.

Inks Lake

Go to Inks Lake State Park! We went camping at this park, and besides the heat that caused us to sweat through the night, this state park was so much fun! Lots of hiking trails, fun views, a waterhole, a big lake for fishing, the list of possible things to do at this park goes on and on.

Pedernales Falls

This was the very first park that Bryce and I visited together. We wanted something fun to do over spring break, and the next thing we knew we were going to a park every chance we had. Pedernales Falls in Johnson City is one of the more prominent in the Central Texas area, so be sure to make your reservation!

Bonus: Longhorn Cavern

This park is one of my favorites solely because of the fact that it is underground. The caverns were a great escape from the Texas heat when we went to visit in August. But this has got me thinking, are the caverns going to be colder during the winter, or will they be an escape from the freezing wind? If I had to guess, it would be the freezing wind one because, ya know, no wind in a cave.

There are so many fun things to do and look at while exploring the great outdoors. If you are looking for different parks besides the ones listed here, we have a Central Texas State Parks category for you to go read about our trips through the Hill Country.
