Our Favorite Parks Around College Station, Texas

Your guide to parks around Aggieland.

After spending three and half years in College Station, I’ve had the time to visit some of the more notable parks around town. Of the things to do around College Station, Texas, doing anything outside has got to be at the top of the list. All of these parks have the space to go walking/running, play Spikeball with friends, or enjoy a relaxing picnic. Here are my favorite parks and a list of activities to do at them:

Wolf Pen Creek

There are literally so many things I have seen people doing at Wolf Pen Creek. Almost every time I visit this park, someone is working out by running up and down the giant hill or having a picnic or study session with friends. Bryce and I always enjoy playing through the 9-hole disc golf course or walking along the paved trails. Wolf Pen Creek has also been known for hosting live concerts, however, this aspect has been adjusted due to COVID restrictions.

John Crompton Park

When COVID first hit and shut everything down, Bryce and I frequently visited John Cromptom because it was a short walk away from my apartment. At this park, there is a basketball court, paved walking trails, and a small fishing pond. We would always love to bring our gloves and a bat to participate in a little friendly competition. There is a little open field near the fishing pond that is the perfect spot for any sport needing lots of space, like baseball!

Research Park

If you’re looking for a larger disc golf course than Wolf Pen Creek, head over to Research Park on Texas A&M’s campus. This 18-hole course has different platforms for each hole to determine your level of difficulty. It also features some holes near water features which can be a bit difficult, just be careful not to throw your disc into the water (I may or may not have done this…). When we went to play at Research Park, we also saw people walking along paved trails or sitting around doing homework.

Penberthy

This park is handled under Rec Sports with A&M and has so many different types of fields for students to enjoy. Before the fields were closed last spring with the lockdown, Bryce and I loved going to Penberthy for our baseball competitions. We enjoyed having the big fields open to play one-on-one baseball games. I’m pretty sure our series is tied, so I’m waiting for the next opportunity we have to play another game!
